BIO
Katie Brown became a cancer survivor at the age of 22.
In 2002, she became a cancer caregiver and a lung cancer patient advocate.
Katie advocated on behalf of her father during his cancer journey and later for thousands of lung cancer patients and families at the online support network she helped create, the Lung Cancer Support Community (LCSC).
The LCSC is the first and largest online support community for anyone affected by a lung cancer diagnosis.
In 2006, the LCSC became a service of the LUNGevity Foundation.
Today, the LCSC has over 10,000 members, over 450,000 postings and boasts millions of visits a month.
While supporting lung cancer patients and their families is a calling and a life-long mission for Katie, her passion is writing and the creative landscape of social media and the internet. She uses her words to create HOPE in the cancer community and to inspire advocacy and collaboration within the lung cancer community.
Katie believes there is also a tremendous responsibility as a survivor and co-survivor to raise awareness, share information and resources and educate others to become advocates of their own medical care. This is especially important in the lung cancer community.
Katie coaches and educates others on advocacy, peer to peer support, raising awareness and on the use of social media platforms and tools to raise awareness, recruit volunteers and advocates, to promote causes, events and businesses.
She is a writer, author; a volunteer cancer support group facilitator and is the founder of Breathe Deep DFW, Dallas Fort Worth's first 5K walk/run benefiting lung cancer research. Katie is an active member of the National AONN association, N. TX Chapter of AONN and editorial board of Conquer Cancer Magazine.
She is living with genetic liver disease.
She is a certified oncology patient navigator and certified caregiving consultant.
